Community Church of Hudson
Community Church of Hudson is a small, non-denominational church in Iowa. Their target audience is everyone. How do we narrow this audience down? Luckily, I attend this church and knew they were looking for a fresh look. Their logo at the time was a low quality jpeg of a leaf the prior pastor had found on a google search. Their website had confusing navigation and very few actions items. Their social media strategy was non-existent, and if they were posting, it was very lengthy and lacked interest.
I met with the church leadership and developed a small design team to tackle the first project, a new brand. After presenting this new brand and all of the revisions were finalized, I continued on my own to develop their social media strategy and create content for them. I took their website and completely redesigned every page, organizing the information and creating ways to bring more people into church.
New families are coming to church, their social media platforms are more engaging, and their website is very user friendly, built with a platform that allows them to manage it and make changes easily as needed.
Logos
As a team we sat down with the leadership of the church and asked them, "How do you want people to feel when they see your logo?"
The answer was, "I don't know."
As attendees of the church, we luckily had a close relationship with the area. With some market research added to this, we decided on a modern yet calm logo with simple shapes which will be timeless and not trendy.
Teal was chosen as the color because it represents calmness, faith, and trust. The leadership wanted a feel of togetherness in the church, which is why "unity" is the focus in the logo. Community stands out as well, due to the amount of events and volunteering the church does to help their communities. The children's and student ministry logos are the same form, just different concepts to interest those age groups. Students have a conversation bubble in a mosaic style pattern. The children's ministry consists of bright, friendly, and youthful bubbles.
Social Media
This church had no social media following. In order to reach their target audience (which we discussed they would like to see more 30-45yr old adults with families), I recommended that they become more engaged on social media... specifically on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. I designed assets for their social media posts, created video advertisements for special sermons, and utilized my skill in photography for special services like major events and baptisms, as well as scheduled and interacted with their audience online.
Website Design
The old website was very clunky, basic, and not user friendly. The navigation was very confusing and not appealing to the target audience discussed. I used a website template, Wix, to develop their website to a user friendly website with a modern and simple design that staff of the church could build upon once I was finished with the project. Assets such as video segments, photographs, and graphic elements were used to give their website the modern feel they desired.
Print Media
Throughout the time I was helping CCOH, they needed several printed materials for advertising and marketing for events, sermons, volunteer opportunities, and more. Flyers, brochures, cards with QR codes directing church goers to their website were made for whatever needs they had.
