Kassie's Senior Session

OMG WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

Kassie had her heart set on a sunflower field for her senior portraits. We are in late august and honestly, I had no clue when sunflower season was, but I was going to figure it out. I called a farm about an hour away, since Kassie and her mom said they usually have sunflower fields around this time of year. THEY JUST GOT RID OF ALL OF THEIR SUNFLOWERS. WHAT. Okay, don't panic. They told me to check out a nearby farm to them, as they have beautiful grounds and a huge benefit was it was only 45mins away from home...

GUESS WHAT? THEY WERE PLANNING TO GET RID OF ALL OF THEIR SUNFLOWERS THE VERY NEXT DAY.
Now, was I worried? No. Why? We live in the epitome of beautiful landscapes for portraiture... the Midwest. I told Kassie and her mom that we could easily find a ton of cool locations within a 15min drive. AND WE DID.

We started in the downtown area of Cedar Falls, IA. Now, if you aren't local to the area... it's not a big downtown that you would find with a major city. However, this is your typical small town downtown, with cute shops, delicious restaurants, and lots of doors, stair cases, and sidewalks with unique character and charm. We started here and went 5 minutes down the road to Big Woods Lake. By the time we got to the lake, the sun was setting beautifully on the water, the fields were without harsh lighting, and the bugs glistened in the background like glitter in the sky.

It turned out to be a wonderful evening, and we got A TON of really great portraits for this senior session!
